The Washington-based Institute for Defense Analysis ran a short piece on 29 August 2013 titled "
Kenyatta's Visit to China--Less than Meets the Eye?" by George Ward, editor of
Africa Watch. Ward concludes that President Kenyatta made the political point that he has alternatives to partnership with the West, but he failed to demonstrate that the relationship with China will unlock the massive resources needed to realize Kenya's infrastructure dreams.
