Chinese Engagement in Rwanda

Pambazuka News published on 12 February 2014 an article titled "Boom Town: Kigali's Chinese Investment" by Daniel Nzohabonimana.  While much of what is discussed in the article is not investment but the winning of tenders for a profit, it is clear that competitors find it hard to compete with Chinese companies.  The Chinese companies have access to lower interest rates on loans from China and import cheap and sometimes low quality materials and labor from China.  As a result, Chinese companies are major players in construction, real estate, hotels and telecommunications.
