The Diplomat published on 23 October 2026 an article titled "China, Djibouti Express 'Serious Concern' Over Threats to Red Sea Shipping" by Shannon Tiezzi.
During a visit to Beijing, the Djiboutian foreign minister met with his Chinese counterpart. They issued a joint communique on the threat to shipping in the Red Sea. It made clear that the onus is on other countries to solve the problem. Neither China nor Djibouti plans to take any action.
