I call to your attention a good paper titled "Diaspora in the Development of Somalia" (PDF) published by the Development Innovation and International Political Economy Research (DIIPER) section of Aalborg University in Denmark. The author is Abdulkadir Osman Farah, a Ph.D. candidate at Aalborg University. The paper addresses the role of remittances to Somalia and looks at the positive impact the diaspora has had on the creation of Somali universities.
