I gave the interview on Dec. 21 before there was clarification of the merger of al-Shabaab and Hizbul Islam. Hassan Dahir Aweys subsequently stated that he too supports the merger of the two organizations.
This still does not resolve, however, the factional problems within al-Shabaab.
