The US Department of State issued on 15 May 2021 a statement titled "Continuing Atrocities and Denial of Humanitarian Access in Ethiopia's Tigray Region" under the name of Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
The US unequivocally called upon the governments of Eritrea and Ethiopia to take all necessary steps to ensure that their forces in Tigray cease and desist the current reprehensible conduct, especially that by the Eritrean Defense Forces and Amhara regional forces. The US again called upon the government of Eritrea to remove its forces from Tigray Region. The statement said Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki must hold all those responsible for atrocities accountable.
