The Atlantic Council published on 31 August 2020 an analysis titled "A No Strings Attached Policy toward Sudan" by Cameron Hudson.
The author reports that a recent visit to Sudan by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo linked removal of Sudan from the US list of state sponsors of terrorism to normalization of relations with Israel. The author notes correctly this risks undermining the delicate political balance that exists in Sudan today.
My comment: While Sudan's normalization of relations with Israel on Sudan's own schedule would be a realistic and positive development, US pressure using the unrelated removal from the US list of state sponsors of terrorism is just another ham-handed tactic that will almost certainly fail. It will be seen for what it is: an attempt to win support in the United States for Trump prior to the November election.
