The Future of Northern and Southern Sudan

The International Crisis Group published an analysis titled “Negotiating Sudan’s North-South Future” dated Nov. 23, 2010.

The study focuses on the problems facing the North and the South after the planned Jan. 9, 2011 referendum on the status of Southern Sudan. It concludes with a series of scenarios based on a referendum held on time and recognized by Khartoum, one held on time and not accepted by Khartoum, one delayed and Southern Sudan pushes for new referendum date, one delayed and Southern Sudan pursues a unilateral declaration of independence or one delayed and Southern Sudan conducts a referendum on its own.
