The International Crisis Group (ICG) issued a warning on 18 April 2012 that Sudan and South Sudan are teetering on the brink of all-out war. It called for diplomatic pressure to cease hostilities and a return to negotiations with pressure on both governments from the UN Security Council as well as the United States, China and key Gulf states.
I would add that the neighbors of Sudan and South Sudan also need to exert maximum pressure on both parties to step back from the abyss. Neither country can "win" an all-out war. The result would be be devastation for both Sudan and South Sudan and probably the collapse of both governments.
