China-Somalia Relations

China is among a small number of countries that has an embassy in Mogadishu.  It housed the embassy in the Jazeera Palace hotel together with embassies from Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.  On 26 July 2015, al-Shabaab carried out a suicide bombing outside the hotel, killing one member of the Chinese security team.  The attack is reported in an article in The Diplomat on 28 July 2015 titled "Deadly Terrorist Attack in Somalia Hits Chinese Embassy" by Shannon Tiezzi.

WantChinaTimes.com suggested in an article published on 30 July 2015 and titled "Somalia May Lose Chinese Assistance after Terror Attack" that this act may put into question China's ability to assist Somalia.
