Nigeria's Nollywood: A Tool for African Soft Power Vis-a-Vis China?

The Centre for Chinese Studies at Stellenbosch University published a commentary titled "Nollywood: An Untapped Opportunity for Deepening China-Africa Relations?" by Nusa Tukic.

Nigeria's film industry known as Nollywood is the second largest in the world after India's Bollywood.  It surpassed Hollywood by volume in 2009 and is now a $3 billion dollar industry.  The author argues that Nollywood can play a growing role in enhancing people-to-people ties and cultural understanding by cooperating with China in making documentaries or feature films that deal with themes such as "Chinese in Africa" or "Africans in China."
