China Looms Large in Kenya's Bilateral Debt

The East African published on 7 January 2019 an article titled "Bleak 2019 for Taxpayers as Kenya Begins Repaying Loans" by James Anyanzwa.

Kenya's public debt is currently valued at more than $50 billion. Loans from China account for over 68 percent of total BILATERAL lending, meaning China is the country's largest BILATERAL lender. The percent of debt held by China drops significantly when including loans from commercial banks and international financial institutions.
