American and Chinese Development Models

The Washington-based and Chinese-funded Institute for China-America Studies published in July 2020 a major report titled "Blue Dots and Red Roads: Frictions and the Potential for Limited Cooperation Between Chinese and U.S. International Development Models" by Matt Geraci, Asiana Cooper, and Mengze Li.

China's investment practices have placed it in direct competition with Western development models.  International development has found itself at a crossroads: will the development efforts of China and the United States morph into yet another arena of strategic competition, or will the two models find ways to coexist pluralistically, allowing for healthy competition and even limited cooperation in non-contentious areas?  The U.S. has proposed the Blue Dot Network as the counterweight to China's Belt and Road Initiative.
