The New Zimbabwean published on 27 August 2020 an article titled "China Launches Unusual Attack on Zim Journalist over Diamond Miner, Angers Scribes."
The Chinese embassy in Zimbabwe launched a rare attack on a Zimbabwean journalist who wrote an article critical of China's handling of the return of a diamond mine operation. The Zimbabwe Union of Journalists came to the defense of one of its colleagues, calling the Chinese statement "ominous" and "unwarranted."
