Tigray War Resulting in Growing Calls for Independence

The Washington Post published on 26 March 2021 an article titled "In Sudan's Sweltering Camps, Refugees from Tigray Dream of Independence from Ethiopia" by Max Bearak.

Drawing on accounts from Tigrayan refugees in neighboring Sudan, the article reports growing expressions of hope that Tigray Region can become independent of landlocked Ethiopia.

Comment:  Should the eventual outcome to the war in Tigray be another landlocked independent state, it could well start a process of balkanization in Ethiopia that would end the country as it has existed in recent history.  A better solution is the immediate removal of Eritrean troops from Tigray, an end to the fighting between Ethiopians, accountability for all human rights abuses and atrocities, and a national political dialogue on future governance of the country.
