Eritrea's Strategy in Ethiopia

The Conversation published on 30 January 2022 a commentary titled "Eritrea Is Involved in Tigray to Boost Its Stature.  Why the Strategy Could Backfire" by Richard Reid, University of Oxford.

The author argues that Eritrea sent troops into Tigray Region in support of Ethiopian forces to reassert itself on the regional stage and to seek revenge against the Tigray People's Liberation Movement.  A weak and disunited Ethiopia is an opportunity for Eritrea.  The strategy could backfire if there is a reconciliation between the government in Addis Ababa and the Tigray regional government.
