While attending the Belt and Road Initiative Forum in Beijing, Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and Chinese President Xi Jinping signed a joint statement establishing an "all-weather" strategic partnership.
Comment: China of late has increased the upgrading of its official relationships with countries in the Global South. It is less clear what this means in practice.
