The Critical Threats Project at the American Enterprise Institute published on 1 November 2023 a study titled "Al Shabaab's Area of Operations" by Liam Karr.
The study maps current areas of al-Shabaab activity in Somalia and northeastern Kenya. Following military setbacks in 2022 and early 2023, an al-Shabaab counter offensive has stalled the Somali Federal Government effort.
