The recent alliance between some Sudanese democracy activists and the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) is a temporary and pragmatic partnership to counter the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces. The SAF has a long history of atrocities and using violence against unarmed protesters. This is not the time to conclude that it has changed its tactics.
