The World Health Organization posted on 14 November 2025 an announcement titled "Ethiopia Confirms Outbreak of Marburg Virus Disease."
Ethiopia has reported 9 cases of Marburg virus, an often-fatal disease transmitted to humans by fruit bats. It is in the same family of diseases that cause Ebola. There is no vaccine for effective management or prevention of Marburg.
