According to senior Chinese officials, there are an estimated 1 million persons of Chinese origin living in Africa. Other estimates go as high as 2 million.
The China in Africa podcast on 15 September 2013 by journalists Eric Olander in Paris and Cobus van Staden in Cape Town was a 24 minute program titled "Who Are the Chinese in Africa?"
Their guest, Solange Chatelard, an expert on China-Zambia relations, offered useful insights on the nature of the Chinese community in Zambia, commenting that they represent a slice of Chinese society including a surprising number of women.
