On March 30, the International Crisis Group published a carefully researched account of the upcoming elections in Sudan titled "Rigged Elections in Darfur and the Consequences of a Probable NCP Victory in Sudan." These elections faced huge challenges from the beginning, but as candidates drop out and opposition political parties say they will boycott the elections, they may now have little meaning. This is a pity. If the elections are a non-event, it will raise questions about the January 2011 referendum on secession for southern Sudan.
