Journalist Julie Flint, who has written extensively on Sudan, published a brief report on the Nuba Mountains under the auspices of the U.S. Institute of Peace. Dated 2 November 2011, and titled “Return to War in Sudan’s Nuba Mountains,” it looks at what is driving the fighting in the Nuba Mountains and is based on her most recent visit there in September.
She reports that the crisis will continue indefinitely without a political agreement that acknowledges the Nuba rebellion is self-sustaining and reflects wider malaise within the new Republic of Sudan.
