The Voice of America (VOA) ran a brief report on 19 July 2012 concerning the health of Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi. It quotes the official government statement, the remarks of long-time, close associate Sibhat Nega, and my own.
While it is clear the prime minister is facing a significant health issue, I emphasized that I have no information on the situation other than what I see in the press and on the Internet. If one assumes that the problem has been known for a lengthy period of time, I believe Meles has put in place a plan to ensure a smooth succession of government should that be required in the months ahead.
