Agence Francaise de Developpement (AFD) has just released a book length study titled The Environmental Challenges Facing a Chinese Oil Company in Chad.
Edited by Geert van Vliet and Geraud Magrin, both at France's Centre de Cooperation Internationale en Recherche Agronomique pour le Developpement, the book analyses the factors that influence environmental management by the China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) when operating outside China, specifically in Chad.
The 2007 CNPC Ronier project aims at refining part of the extracted oil and exporting the remainder, most probably through the pipeline built under the Exxon Doba project. The question of the compatibility between the systems of reference and practices on both firms arises. The book analyses the challenges in the interaction between Chinese and western oil firms and the host country.
