China, Africa and the Textile Industry

Writing for Consultancy Africa on 3 September 2012, Rutendo Dhliwayo, analyzed the impact of Chinese textiles on African production in a piece titled A Continent vs. a Country: China Putting Strain on Africa's Clothing and Textiles Industries.

The author concluded that the underlying tensions between China and Africa, particularly in the clothing and textile industry, are symptomatic of the grave state of Africa's textile and clothing industry.  If there is not a fundamental restructuring of the industry in Africa, the Chinese textile industry could wipe out what remains of it.
