Agricultural Challenges in Sudan

The Nordic Africa Institute published in 2014 a study titled "Current Status of Agriculture and Future Challenges in Sudan" by Farida Mahgoub.

An estimated 60 to 80 percent of all Sudanese engage in subsistence agriculture.  Since oil came online in the early 2000s, agriculture has been neglected.  After the independence of South Sudan, 75 percent of Sudan's oil went with the newly independent country.  As a result, food insecurity has become a growing threat in Sudan.
