Burkina Faso: China and Taiwan

The Centre for Chinese Studies at Stellenbosch University published on 12 October 2015 a commentary titled "Taiwan Wary of Burkina's Faso's Political Turmoil" by Chen-shen Yen, Taiwan's National Chengchi University. 

Burkina Faso is one of only three countries in Africa that recognizes Taiwan.  Former President Blaise Compaore, who was toppled in 2014, established diplomatic relations with Taiwan in 1994.  The government in Taipei is now concerned that a new government in Ouagadougou may switch recognition to Beijing and is working hard to avoid that prospect.
