Somali Remittances to Urban Areas and for IDPs

The Food and Agriculture Organization published in September 2015 a study titled "Assessment of External Remittances in Selected Urban Areas and Among Displaced Populations Across Somalia."

The study suggests remittance flows to Somalia have reached $1.2 billion annually.  Most of the money is used by families to cover basic household expenses such as food, clothing, education, and medical care.
