2016 Doing Business in Ethiopia

The World Bank recently published its "Doing Business 2016 Economic Profile for Ethiopia."  The report measures and tracks changes in regulations affecting 11 areas in the life cycle of a business: starting a business, dealing with construction permits, getting electricity, registering property, getting credit, protecting minority investors, paying taxes, trading across borders, enforcing contractors, resolving insolvency, and labor market regulations.  The World Bank evaluated 189 countries.

On the overall ease of doing business, Ethiopia ranked 146, a slight improvement from 148 in 2015.  The regional average rank for Sub-Saharan Africa was 143.  By comparison, Kenya ranked 108 and Eritrea ranked 189.
