The Institute for Defense Analyses published on 9 November 2016 a brief analysis titled "AMISOM and Peace Support Operations: Lessons Learned" by Sarah Graveline.
It concluded that AMISOM peace support operations are subject to the weaknesses of intervening forces, and when these forces come from neighboring states, political challenges can be compounded. It is also hard for peacekeeping operations to stabilize a country in conflict without concurrent political reform.
