Kenya: Avoiding Another Electoral Crisis

The International Crisis Group (ICG) published on 3 March 2017 a commentary titled "Kenya: Avoiding Another Electoral Crisis" by Murithi Mutiga, ICG senior analyst for the Horn of Africa.

Kenyans go to the polls in August and heated contests will take place for the presidency and other positions such as county governorships. Disputed results marked by violence have occurred in three of the last five elections since the multi-party system was re-introduced in 1992. Kenya needs to ensure that the 2017 vote goes smoothly.
