Kenya: Chinese Company Case Study in Skills Development

The China Africa Research Initiative at Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies published in 2017 a policy brief titled "Creating a Market for Skills Transfer: A Case Study of AVIC International" by Irene Yuan Sun, McKinsey & Company, and Lin Qi, freelance photographer.

The authors looked at the skills transfer programs in Kenya of AVIC International, a Chinese state-owned company and member of the Global Fortune 500. AVIC is one of the major construction contractors and heavy machinery providers. The authors concluded the impact of the company's skills development programs has been mixed.
