Kenya-China Trade Overwhelmingly Favors China

Africa Check posted on 4 December 2018 an analysis titled "Yes, China Is Kenya's Biggest Trading Partner--But It's Not a Balanced Trade."

In 2017, China was Kenya's largest trading partner at 17 percent of Kenya's total trade. The European Union combined accounted for only 14 percent and the United States for 4.5 percent. But Kenya exported only $0.01 billion worth of goods to China and imported $3.8 billion from China, accounting for one of the largest trade deficits with China of any country in Africa. The European Union had a modest trade surplus with Kenya; U.S. trade with Kenya was almost in balance.
