China's Multilateral Diplomacy in Africa

E-International Relations Publishing posted in March 2019 an open access E-book titled "New Perspectives on China's Relations with the World" edited by Daniel Johanson, Jie Li and Tsunghan Wu. It contains a chapter titled "China's Multilateral Diplomacy in Africa: Constructing the Security-Development Nexus" by Ilaria Carrozza, London School of Economics and Political Science.

Carrozza argues that Chinese decision makers have been able to successfully socialize African leaders into a narrative of South-South cooperation that calls for increased cooperation and legitimizes the security-development nexus which is at the heart of Chinese policies. It is by successfully interpelating African decision makers into this discourse that China has justified increased "interventions" in peace and security.
