Chinese Belt and Road Initiative: How Does Africa Fit?

Zimbabweland posted on 13 May 2019 a commentary titled "The Chinese Belt and Road Initiative: What's in It for Africa?" by Ian Scoones.

Following the recently completed Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) Forum in Beijing where there was much grand talk about mutual benefit and sustainable development, the author suggested it is more important to look at actual practice. He concluded that BRI is about China's regional, even global, political influence, especially through trade. At the same time, he noted that the list of BRI projects for Zimbabwe included the new parliament, which was planned long before BRI was even announced.
