China and African Food Security

The China Africa Project posted on 9 July 2020 a Question and Answer titled "Is China Helping or Hindering Africa's Efforts to Future-proof Food Security?" between Development Reimagined, a Beijing-based international development consultancy, and Cheng Cheng, chief economist of the Made in Africa Initiative.

Cheng Cheng discussed the challenges of achieving food security in Africa, a continent that today is a net importer of food.  When asked about African agricultural exports to China, he replied that China won't import basic cereals or grains from Africa at significant scale but rather focus on value-added and specialist agriculture products.
