China and US Arms Sales to Uganda and Kenya

The China Africa Research Initiative published in September 2020 a study titled "Challenging Pax Americana: The Commercial Imperative in Chinese Arms Exports to Africa - A Case Study of Uganda and Kenya" by Elijah N. Munyi.

This case study of Uganda and Kenya explores their military procurement priorities and examines whether the growing preference for Chinese arms will affect their relations with the United States.  It concludes that the two main determinants for the two states' shift in preference for Chinese arms were the comparative cost of equivalent hardware and China's minimal oversight on end-users, including audit procurement processes.
