The Africa Center for Strategic Studies published on 11 December 2020 a paper titled "The Spread of Surveillance Technology in Africa Stirs Security Concerns" by Bulelani Jili, Harvard University.
The paper assesses the rapid expansion of surveillance equipment in Africa, much of it provided by China's Huawei, and warns that it can lead to abuses of democratic norms and practices.
