The Center for Strategic and International Studies published on 17 February 2021 a commentary titled "Where Is the Africa-China Relationship Headed in 2021?" by Hannah Ryder, CEO of Development Reimagined.
The author predicts that the China-Africa relationship will strengthen even further in 2021 for three reasons: (1) African countries may gain from China's import diversification; (2) Because of COVID-19, African countries will need more financing than ever and Chinese lending may offer the only available short-term or medium-term funding; and (3) the holding of FOCAC in 2021 will boost the relationship.
Call me skeptical.
