UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres issued a brief statement on 2 February in which he expressed "serious concern over situation in Ethiopia's Tigray, reiterating the need for urgent steps to alleviate the humanitarian situation and extend the necessary protections to those at risk." He also underscored the importance of the partnership between the Government of Ethiopia and the United Nations.
