African Resources Watch, a Congolese NGO, published in June 2021 a report titled "Convention de la Sino-Congolaise des Mines: Qui perd, qui gagne entre l'Etat congolais et la Chine?"
The report notes that 13 years after the deal was signed, only 50 percent of the promised commitments from the Chinese side have been delivered and less than half of the promised $6 billion has been allocated. African Resources Watch concluded that the DRC will be saddled with debt and poor quality infrastructure, making it a bad deal for Kinshasa.
