The South African Institute of International Affairs published in June 2021 a paper titled "Vaccine Diplomacy and Beyond: New Trends in Chinese Image-Building in Africa" by Cobus van Staden and Yu Shan Wu.
Drawing on the COVID-19 pandemic, the paper maps and contextualizes new developments in China's use of public diplomacy in Africa.
