China and Russia Oppose US Sanctions in Ethiopia and Hope Peace Will Prevail

China General Television Network published on 9 November 2021 a summary of China's position on the civil war in Ethiopia titled "Chinese Envoy Calls for Time, Space for Good Offices to Play Out in Ethiopia."

China supports the good offices of African Union representative Olusegun Obasanjo and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to promote peace in Ethiopia.  It also opposes US sanctions in Ethiopia.

Russia posted on 8 November 2021 a "Statement by Deputy Permanent Representative Anna Evstigneeva at UNSC Briefing on Peace and Security in Africa."

Russia expressed support for a dialogue that restores peace, spoke in favor of the unity and territorial integrity of Ethiopia, and opposed US sanctions.

Comment:   Both China and Russia earlier joined the 15 other members of the UN Security Council in support of a ceasefire in Ethiopia. While they both oppose US sanctions, they seem to base the rest of their policy on the "hope" that Ethiopians will resolve their differences.
