Sudan: A New Constitution Assures Nothing

 African Arguments published on 5 October 2022 a commentary titled "Sudan's Misguided Fixation with Finding a Transformative Constitution" by Aida Abbashar, PhD candidate at Durham University.

Constitutions have been an integral part of Sudan's post-independence history.  But they have done little to end conflicts, ensure justice, or expand rights.  Political elites just ignore them or write new ones.  To succeed, they must have wide popular participation and be shaped to deal with peoples' genuine concerns and realities.
