The US Department of State issued a statement on 29 October 2023 that talks are resuming between the Sudan Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian assistance, establish ceasefires and other confidence building measures, and build toward a permanent cessation of hostilities. The talks will not address broader political issues.
The United States, Saudi Arabia, and Intergovernmental Authority for Development on behalf of the African Union will take part in the talks, which will be hosted by Saudi Arabia.
