Ethiopia: Detailed CNN Report on Ethnic Cleansing in Humera

 CNN published on 5 September 2021 a detailed account titled "Men Are Marched Out of Prison Camps.  Then Corpses Float Down the River" by Nima Elbagir, Katie Polglase, Barbara Arvanitidis, Gianluca Mezzofiore, and Laura Smith-Spark.  

At least 60 Tigrayan bodies have appeared in the Setit River (known as the Tekeze River in Ethiopia) in eastern Sudan.  They are believed to have originated in the town of Humera on the Setit/Tekeze River, which also forms Ethiopia's boundary with Eritrea.  Before the outbreak of conflict, Humera was administered by Tigray Region but subsequently occupied by central government troops and Amhara militia. 

CNN says evidence indicates the dead are Tigrayans.  Witnesses on the ground say the bodies tell a dark story of mass detentions and mass executions in Humera.  Tigrayan military victories in central Tigray in June against Ethiopian National Defense Force troops reportedly spurred the executions in Humera, which remains under the control of the central government.   

New Atrocities in Tigray Region

 The New York Times published on 3 August 2021 an article titled "As Ethiopia's War Rages, Bodies Float Downriver into Sudan" by Simon Marks and Declan Walsh.

The article reports that bodies, apparently Tigrayans, are floating down the Tekeze River and reaching the border between Sudan and Ethiopia.  Most of the bodies bear signs of violence.

 The Guardian published on 2 August 2021 an article titled "Dozens of Bodies Found Floating in River between Ethiopia's Tigray and Sudan."

The bodies found floating in the Tekeze River are apparently Tigrayans, some shot in the chest and some with hands tied.  Persons responsible for the killings have not been identified.
