China-Africa Cooperation: Shifting from Commodities to Digital Innovation
Sage Journals' International Area Studies Review published in 2017 a study titled "China-Africa Cooperation: Struggling Commodities and the Silver-lining in the Innovation Economy" by Vincent Ibonye, Nigerian Institute of International Affairs.
The author notes the downturn in commodity prices and slowing purchases of commodities by China as it shifts to a domestic-driven economic growth model. He suggests one way to mitigate the damage to African commodity exporters is to encourage China to make digital innovation an important part of its cooperation with Africa.
