Disentangling military and police units in Sudan’s South Kordofan
"West Nuba Mountains - South Kordofan" by Flickr user Rita Willaert.
The Sudan Human Security Baseline Assessment (HSBA) issued an excellent analysis of armed units in Sudan’s South Kordofan region in Feb. 2011.
It draws on satellite coverage, discusses issues concerning the Popular Defense Forces of northern Sudan, and the Joint Integrated Units (JIUs) of northerners and southerners established by the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA). It also looks at the role of the Sudan Police Force and the Sudan People’s Liberation Army forces remaining in South Kordofan.
