With such a good record in building democracy, it is inexplicable why the government of Somaliland continues to treat journalists, even if some are unprofessional, the way that it does. The Executive Director of the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) sent a letter on 13 June 2012 to President Silanyo (unfortunately the letter misspelled his name) addressing this situation. There are many countries in the developing world where a letter like this would be a total waste of time. I don't believe Somaliland is one of them. As a friend of Somaliland, I can say that this only harms its otherwise good reputation.
